Recycling of electronic waste and the EU WEEE Directive
United Kingdom has brought into force of the EU waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), including a detailed list of products covered by the new law.
This poses new requirements for disposal of electronic waste.
WEEE Directive covers a wide range of products such as:
Large household appliances: refrigerators, freezers, microwave ovens, washing machines
Small household appliances: vacuum cleaners, toasters, coffee machines, electric toothbrushes
ITand telecommunication equipment: computers, notebooks, monitors, keyboards, printers, cordless phones
Consumer equipment: radios, televisions, DVD players, VCRs, etc.
Lighting equipment: low-energy saving bulbs (Compact) is classified as WEEE
Power Tools: all tools such as drills, saws, sewing machines. Only large-scale stationary industrial tools are exempt
Toys, Sports & Leisure: electric trains, game consoles, cycle computers, etc.
Medical devices:implanted and infected products are exempt
Monitoring and control devices: smoke alarms, thermostats, etc.
Automated devices: this classification covers all appliances that automatically deliver products, for example, beverages, food, money, etc.
Companies selling products or may give consumers the right to return the merchandise in the store when they go off in lieu of a new object is created, or they may choose to fund the recycling centralized. There are at least 36 different"compliance programs of the producer" Manufacturers and importers can join. The rule of organization, delivery and disposal of waste without additional cost to the customer. The average cost for each unit of which the scheme should be less than GBP1 for sale.
